Friendly reminder that being a peaceful person does NOT mean you have to always be happy:

As a person who is accustomed to trying to block my emotions in order to “stay happy,” I feel like I’d post about this as a reminder for myself, and whoever’s reading this that may need it, too.  I always need to remind myself that being peaceful does not mean you can’t be sad, or angry, or anxious, etc. sometimes.

To be peaceful is to be aware of these emotions, and flow with them while simultaneously ceasing to let them dictate your thoughts.  For example, it’s okay to recognize that you’re sad.  It’s okay to let yourself feel it for a little while.  If you bottle it up, you’ll just feel worse.

The key to keeping your inner peace is to learn when to let it go.  Let yourself be sad; cry, stay in your room away from everyone, lay down, anything to let the feeling out.  But make sure you heal yourself somehow afterwards.  I always like to make tea for myself, and put on a favorite movie.  Or sometimes I’ll read a book if I’m in the mood, or take a walk if possible.  If you really need a pick-me-up, a few sweets never fail to do the job. ;)

But seriously, I just want everyone to remember that it’s not only natural for us to express our emotions, it’s healthy.  Just do something to calm your mind after you’ve done that.  Everything in life needs balance, and it’s important you balance those extreme emotions so you can keep that inner peace and stable mind you love so much!  And I know I used sadness as an example in this post, but this applies to any negative emotion that you fear may hinder your peace/happiness.

Be sad, be mad, be jealous, be anxious, be anything.  Just remember that feelings are temporary, and you’ll be okay. ♥

people who are paying attention: hey hey did you know that robbing a store is not actually grounds for an extrajudicial execution anyway

Books are sexy.

  • Do not forget Michael Brown
  • Do not forget how the media dehumanized him and tried to justify his murder
  • Do not forget how peaceful protests were painted as savage riots
  • Do not forget police armed with military grade weapons terrorized and arrested black civilians
  • Do not forget Darren Wilson being awarded over $200,000 in fundraiser donations for murdering an unarmed black child
  • Do not forget that this system was not built to defend us, but to control us
  • Do not forget Ferguson

Fox spent much of its VMA coverage questioning Beyonce’s ability to promote feminism while being "extremely sexual."

Megyn Kelly labeled Beyonce’s message and lyrics as “skanky,” while a article claimed the singer “seemed to ensure her behind was the focus on each song, all the while educating young viewers about feminism.”

On The Five, Fox hosts suggested “she’s auditioning for a future husband,” and Greg Gutfeld announced that ”the greatest thing about pop culture is convincing women that acting like strippers is empowering.”

What Fox failed to recognize is that expressing sexuality does not automatically remove a woman’s right to discuss equality. Instead, the network righteously slut-shamed Beyonce and used her performance as basis to attack feminism as a whole. In reality, such policing of women’s sexuality has harmed progress toward equality. The very same mindset has been used to dismiss women’s need to access contraception, and blame rape survivors for their own assaults.

If anyone is going to be shamed, it should be Fox and its irresponsible coverage of women’s issues.
